Log options
From the versatile log selection of Kontio you will find a suitable option for different purposes and climates. The choice of log type and shape can significantly affect the appearance of your house. All the Kontio materials are the best northern softwood. The wide experience and the latest production technology ensure that the products are always of guaranteed Kontio quality.
Well planned is half done – quick results
Each Kontio log house is designed individually. The customer is supplied with precise plans of log construction details by Kontio and the dealer in the country in question.
The Kontio log profile and joint structure ensure an easy and precise erection of the logs. Wooden dowels in walls, tie rods and tongued jambs at openings guarantee a sturdy end result. The erection of logs is quick and straightforward, and you also get finished interior and exterior walls with no extra effort.
Round logs
Best northern woodKontio log buildings are built of slowly grown northern wood. The close grained quality and a large share of heartwood have proved to be the best construction material.
Competence guarantees quality
Kontio uses professional further processing operations and quality control. The material is always treated at Kontio, from log right up till the finished end product.
The latest technology is used in sawing, drying and planing. As for drying, we comply with current quality requirements (Log building. Quality requirements. Finnish Log House Industry Association, March 2001). Finally, a mild water-soluble wood protective liquid is sprayed onto log surface. It provides protection against possible weathering and moulding for the period of transportation and the starting phase of construction operations.
Sturdy and tight tongue-and-groove log profile
A wide recess of the Kontio round log ensures a tight construction with minimal settling (1). A separate space has been cut in the log structure for insulation, keeping it protected from moisture (2). A drip edge in the profile keeps rainwater out of the log seams (3). A groove cut in the log directs the natural cracking of wood to the lower surface of the log (4). This reduces cracking in the visible parts of the round log.
Locked corner joint, registered design of Kontio
The tightness of a round log building is guaranteed by the Kontio tongue-and-groove type locked corner joint (5). The tongue-and-groove solution of corners and uniform insulation between the logs ensure a warm and tight wall (6). The special machining of locked corner joints effectively directs rainwater away from the wall structure (7).
Laminated logs
With Kontio laminated log you get a modern surface for your log building, respecting tradition and making use of the latest production technology. From the wide log selection of Kontio you will find a suitable option for your purpose.Best northern wood
Kontio log buildings are built from slowly grown northern wood. The close grained quality and a large share of heartwood have proved to be the best construction material. Only large butt logs are accepted as the raw material for laminated logs. As for drying, we comply with current quality requirements (Log building. Quality requirements. Finnish Log House Industry Association, March 2001).
Competence guarantees quality
Laminated log makes an excellent construction material; laminated log preserves the natural cell structure of wood. In addition, settling and cracking are minimal in a laminated log. Kontio laminated log is manufactured with a modern heat gluing method where dried timber billets are heated to about 70 °C and glued together while applying strong pressure. This ensures that the adhesive is absorbed deeper than the log surface, thereby forming a firm moisture permeable adhesive joint (1). The very durable heartwood is always on the outer surface of the log (2).
Samples are taken from every gluing lot for quality control purposes. In addition to the strength of the adhesive joint, qualities tested include the moisture permeability of the adhesive joint, which ensures a healthy and breathing indoor air. After gluing, the log billets are planed to profile. In the same context, a mild water-soluble wood protective liquid is sprayed onto log surface. It provides protection against possible weathering and moulding for the period of transportation and the starting phase of construction operations.
Tongue-and-groove log profile
A tongue-and-groove type recess, which has been cut in the shape of the laminated log, ensures a tight construction with minimal settling, thanks to dimensional accuracy and recess width (6). A separate space has been cut in the log structure for insulation (3), keeping it protected from storms and rains. A drip edge (4) in the profile ensures that the recess keeps dry.
Rectangular logs
Best northern woodKontio log buildings are built of slowly grown northern wood. The close grained quality and a large share of heartwood have proved to be the best construction material.
Competence guarantees quality
Sawn log billets are dried – in compliance with current quality requirements (Log building. Quality requirements. Finnish Log House Industry Association, March 2001) – in separate drying kilns by adjusting moisture and heat close to the final equilibrium moisture content of the wall. This helps to maximise the best qualities of close-grained wood.
Cracking that naturally happens in wood is directed to the lower surface of the sawn log billet already in the drying stage. This significantly reduces the crack tensions forming on the sides of the rectangular log.
After the drying, the logs are planed to profile. In the same context, a mild water-soluble wood protective liquid is sprayed onto log surface. It provides protection against possible weathering and moulding for the period of transportation and the starting phase of construction operations.
Tongue-and-groove log profile
A tongue-and-groove type recess, which has been cut in the shape of the rectangular log, ensures a tight construction with minimal settling, thanks to dimensional accuracy and recess width (1). The tongue-and-groove profile of the recess also increases the horizontal rigidity of the wall. A separate space has been cut in the recess profile for insulation (2), keeping it protected from storms and rains. A drip edge (3) in the profile ensures that the recess keeps
Tightly locked corner joint
The dimensionally accurate locked corner joint by Kontio (4) as well as double insulation in the corner joint profile ensure a warm and tight corner solution.
Quick results
The erection of logs is quick and straightforward, and you also get finished interior and exterior wall surfaces with no extra effort. The profile of the log and the joint structure ensure that the log can only be erected in the place reserved for it.
Wooden dowels in walls, tie rods and tongued jambs at openings guarantee a sturdy end result.
Wall structures with supplementary insulation
Допълнителна изолация на стенитеThin rectangular laminated logs can be provided with supplementary insulation in accordance with the purpose of use of the customer. Supplementary insulation also gives freedom as to the selection of interior lining and siding.
If your region has strict heat insulation requirements, supplementary insulation helps you to increase the K value of the log wall and the whole building. External heat insulation protects a log wall in especially difficult climate conditions.
You can choose a 95–135 mm rectangular or laminated log as the exterior surface. For interior lining, you can make your choice freely among panel, wallpaper, painting or wallboard.
Supplementary insulation on the outside gives your house a genuine log house feeling, and for siding you may choose for instance panel, board and batten, brick lining or stucco.
